Opionated and Informed

There was an interesting piece I read that was linked to on the RPS Sunday Papers, it had nothing to do with gaming but everything in a way. In essence it was about that maybe everyone shouldn’t be entitled to an opinion which while provocative is interesting in a way. It went on to say that not everyone should be entitled but that you are only entitled to one you can argue.

Bringing this back to gaming if you frequent forums and such you would have encountered many people whom spout some really bias posts or just completely misguided. But it is more then that as people will often make no attempt to justify their claim beyond my thing is best. We have all seen it CoD v BF, wow v any other game, this mechanic is terrible, class is op…but there is nothing constructive about any of it.

It is an inherent part of our gaming world but one in which I really don’t want to be a major part of anymore. I enjoy a good natured flaming now and then, it’s fun in a way and it can often a great thing for a PvP environment in terms of creating rivalry but what is not ok is derailing a constructive thread or dismissing an argument altogether.

I’ll just say it right now too. If you can’t argue your point constructively then your post is invalid… You are not entitled to make it, you are not entitled to post it and it should be deleted, and maybe a digital kick to the groinal area. This unintelligent dribble does nothing but hurt any sort of open communication or debate that goes on. If you can argue for your point even if 99% of people follow a different ideal it is still very valid. When your idea or argument is complete garbage it is still wortwhile as long as you can argue for it. Even when you think no on-one cares you should always write constructively.

As the author says taste is one thing we are always entitled to though… What flavour icecream you like, pizza toppings, or in gaming stuff like the locked camera of Tera over other things or maybe even open pvp. These types of things will always be subjective but what’s important is treating them as such and not as fact, there is no right way or one way better than the other.. accept others view and move on.
